President's News

Bruce's BLOG

Happy rainy day to you all, and thank you to everyone who came along to hear our inspiring speaker on Tuesday night.  And a special thank you to Joe and everyone in the cycle club.

Next week is the Vocational Visit to PCYC..another great night to bring your partners along.  The cost for the night is $20pp and will be catered by the "Friendly Grocer" as per our Xmas break-up.  Drinks will be available for purchase at "...genuine 1976 prices..and help yourself to the wheel of cheese" (from the classic Austrlian movie Crackerjack).  It will be held in the PCYC soccer club house (around the back and follow the path with the lights) and the guestspeaker will be the new police superintendant.  It will be a great chance to see all the changes that have happened at the PCYC since we were last there.

As you all know, Doreen is about the venture into the great beyond during Feburary and March.  While she is away, Mick Cullen has kindly offered to be the contact for meeting attendance.  So, from the 14th of February, can you please either SMS Mick on 0415 428 777 or email him on mick@cullen.net.au with your apologies.

Speaking of Mick Cullen...Mick has asked me to pass on a request for members to send  him photos of any Rotary activies you are involved in.  As he says...if we don't see the photos, did it really happen??  If you are involved with activies such as Donations in Kind, bikes for Honiara, painting, PCYC gardens, etc, please take a few moments to grab a couple of happy snaps and send them to Mick at mick@cullen.net.au.  He will put them on Facebook to help us be more visible to future members and to act as a course of club history.

Clean Up Australia Day is coming up again.  Mick Larter has setup the following account on their website so that those who wish to participate can register their intention.  Just click on the link below:

Quote of the week is from Lewis Carrol: "If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there"

Terry's Friday Funnies

The current plight of the Costa Concordia reminds me of a comment made by Sir Winston Churchill. After his retirement he was cruising the Mediterranean on an Italian cruise liner. Some Italian journalists asked why an ex British Prime Minister should chose an Italian ship.

“There are three things I like about being on an Italian cruise ship” said Churchill. “First their cuisine is unsurpassed. Second their service is superb. And then, in time of emergency, there is none of this nonsense about women and children first”.

I was in the waiting room of my doctor's office the other day when the doctor started yelling, "Typhoid! Tetanus! Measles!" I went up to the nurse and asked her what was going on. She told me that the doctor liked to call the shots.

A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own childhood was like: "We used to skate outside on a pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard. We rode our pony. We picked wild raspberries in the woods. "

The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this in. At last she said, "I sure wish I'd gotten to know you sooner! "
